Green and Earth Friendly Plastic Bags

Back in the old days when you went to the grocery store you did not get plastic bags very often most of the time the store would give you paper sacks. Therefore, when people would get plastic bags they would wash them out so they could reuse them. When the manufactures of the plastic bags lowered the cost bellow, the price of paper sacks the stores started giving them out as if they were free. As they did, the problem began. Today we have trillions of plastic bags lying in the dump that will not decompose for hundreds of years. Another problem with plastic bags is that they are made of polyethylene (oil by product). Polyethylene has some advantages and disadvantages. The good thing about it is that you can recycle it. However, not everyone has jumped on the recycle wagon so it has not made that big of a difference in the number of bags going to the dump. The bad thing about polyethylene is that as it decomposes the gases that come off are harming the planet. For this reason, some government officials are trying to ban the bags ...

Laundry Balls - Your new Going Green Best Friend and Why

Laundry balls come in different models.  Some resemble a small ball that bounces around in your washing machine and provides extra agitation.  Some other models act as detergent dispensers that are one time use and need to be repurchased continually.  There are still others that contain other materials that are supposed to allow for the release of ionized oxygen during the wash cycle.  This ionized oxygen is supposed to raise pH levels in the water, thus softening it and the fabrics being washed.  This allows water to penetrate easily the fabric and lift out dirt and grime. The effectiveness of these laundry balls is in dispute from people who swear they work to those who see no appreciable difference and consider them a waste of money.  The balls also come in a ceramic disk form; however, the way the work remains pretty much identical to the ball types. Laundry balls are not a new product and can be traced back to 1991 when they were sold via a multi-level marketing outfit.  This was done through recruitment of distributors and their subsequent sales of the product.  As with many of the earlier MLM businesses, emphasis was put more on the recruiting of distributors ...

Gas Saving Tips

The world is just coming out of some of the highest prices ever seen for gasoline. Just one short year ago, gas was pushing $4 a gallon in most places in America and it topped $5 per gallon in others. However lately oil prices have begun to fall and people have brought out their big gas hogging vehicles once more. Everyone should realize that even though the oil crisis is behind us for a moment the world is still highly dependent on foreign oil and the price soaring could begin again at any time. Not to mention the fact that oil as a natural resource is non-renewable and the time will come when it is no longer available, and those reasons do not even touch on green house gases and the trouble with the environment. Research suggests that for each gallon of gas that is burned, 20 pounds of carbon dioxide are produced. You see the burning of gasoline and oxygen that is required to produce combustions has far-reaching effects. Bottom line is people need to know that they can take steps now that will ease many of the above-mentioned issues considerably. Angry ...

Use Alternative Energy to Save on your Heating

When you want to stay warm, you usually depend on the standard methods of energy - coal, oil or gas.  In these times of raising consciousness, the ability to stay warm and help the environment has become the new warm.  We want to stay warm in the winter, and when days shorten and cold weather descends, we look for ways to be kind to the environment while heating our homes. To date, natural gas is still the most widely utilized forms of energy for heating our homes.  About 1/2 of the American population currently uses natural gas to heat their homes with increases yearly.  The reason for this is that it's a pretty clean energy source and it doesn't require that much maintenance.  Pricing has been inexpensive for years with increases only being seen lately.  A typical home will pay somewhere between $700 and $1,500 per winter season plus the monthly service charges. Clean coal technology has been spouted by politicians lately, causing the spotlight to shift to the coal furnace.  Coal is a very inexpensive source of domestic energy, but the cost of the furnaces can run pretty high and they take constant supervision and they are not clean or lacking ...
