Eco-Friendly Furniture - Tips & Ideas

Although the price of furniture has gone down recently, which is mostly because of imports that are cheap, the environment is actually paying the price for this.  Many pieces of modern furniture today have substances included in them that are toxic to humans and to the environment today. If you look around your office or home, you may find a lot of furniture that is made out of particle board.  Some may have some veneer made of wood, and you may really not have any idea about the wood that is being used in the furniture.  Most people end up thinking about price, not the environment, when they purchase their furniture. The problem with furniture that is made out of particle board is that the resin in it that binds the chips of wood together actually has formaldehyde in it.  This is a toxin and a carcinogen.  Of course, you can't be quite sure what wood is in the veneer and the chips of wood.  It could be from any type of wood out there today. Many of the covers and cushions for today's furniture is made out of materials that can be pretty nasty.  PVC is often used, which has formaldehyde in ...

Green marketing is booming and there are lots of high profile companies and little guys striving to make a change with their green-driven commitment to save the planet. Defining Green Marketing Green marketing is making its mark.  It involves the marketing of environmentally safe products, includes a host of activities that has influenced product modification and advertising.  Truth to tell, there is no exact definition for green marketing, ecological marketing or environment marketing.  Green marketing has touched people' views on environmental concerns yet there is much work to do before the entire world goes green. What You Should Do If you are into Green Marketing, you are still bound by the code of ethics of responsible selling and advertising.  You should be a green-rounded entrepreneur, meaning you know your products and how these can be used in homes and industrial or business sites.  It is not necessary to be a green guru to impress potential customers.  In this business, honesty is still the best policy - as people are still taking in the enormity of the change happening now, changes leading to their participation in green living. Green marketing is no different from regular marketing.  It entails the same business practices online and offline.  Good ...

Nowadays, green collar jobs are gaining popularity in many sectors.  On one hand, you have the government officials who firmly believe that green jobs will provide the much-needed stimulus to put our nation's economy back on track, thanks to the creation of new jobs and new business opportunities.  On the other hand, you have the environmentalists who appreciate the new awareness that society in general has acquired in relation to the imperative and immediate need for renewable sources of energy. Such an interest in going green will benefit the ordinary folks looking for jobs to fill up the employment gaps left by the recession.  However, it must be noted that competition for green jobs is very intense especially as specialized training is necessary to secure a lucrative slot in the field. Green Living Tips for Living Life

Recycling is a buzz word in green circles.  If you have been wondering what to do with your old newspapers, car tires, and old mattresses, there's a lot you can do about the stuff.  Old newspapers can be sold and recycled for packaging purposes, car tires can be sold to dealers who sell to companies making rubber roofing, and old mattresses will find new life as flame retardants and carpet underlay. Don't Throw Away those Old Mattresses Think of the many uses from that old mattress.  If you don't want it, there is somebody who wants it.  Donate it or give it away.  Just don't dump it anywhere.  You can sell it to junk shops buying recyclable items.  The wooden frames can still be salvaged and used as fuel, the springs can be converted and the cotton still has practical uses in industrial applications. Dumping it improperly poses hazards to the environment because mattresses are loaded with flame retardant chemicals.  These chemicals can seep into the ground, poisoning the soil and the waterways.  Imagine a landfill with millions of old mattresses; that should be enough to jolt you awake to the hidden dangers of improper disposal of mattresses. Recycling programs can help you with ...
