10 Great Reasons to Get an Electric Car

Admittedly, many of us will continue to use conventional cars even with the increasing popularity of electric cars.  In a way, this is not such a big deal considering that there are ways to lessen the environmental pollution that comes with using a fuel-powered car, not to mention that getting an electric car to replace your old but still functioning car is still an expensive proposition. However, if you are in the market for a new vehicle, then consider these ten practical reasons to go electric over an electric car. Lesser Service Costs Since the parts are fewer in an electric car, there are fewer things to fix, too.  As such, you can drastically reduce your trips to the mechanic and, hence, significantly lower your service bills.  Your wallets will be fatter, too. Say Goodbye to Oil Changes Oil changes can be a hassle, not to mention a real pollutant.  With an electric car, you say goodbye to oil changes since only the coolant flush and battery changes will be on the menu, both of which are less polluting and time-consuming than an oil change. Get Rid of Tailpipe Emissions Among the hazardous by-products of using ...

What is REDD? - Getting Familiar with Eco-Friendly Acronyms

When it comes to going green, there are some acronyms out there that you may not be familiar with.  One of those acronyms is REDD.  If you aren't sure what it is, it's time you learn about it because there's no doubt that you'll continue to hear about it in the future.  What does it stand for? REDD is the acronym for Reducing Emissions for Deforestation and Forest Degradation. Stop Cutting Down the Forests Essentially this is a program that simply works to stop the chopping of the forests to help reduce the greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere.  This program wants to find a way that the greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by way of economic incentives.  Whether the timber is cut down for pasture or conversion to agriculture, it needs to be reduced.  This program is mainly focused on the rainforest, but it also works on other types of similar forests in nations that are developing, but this program also works other places in the world as well. Financial Incentives When it comes to the REDD, their main idea is to actually provide some great financial incentives so that the forests are worth even more when they are standing than they are ...

5 Best Ways to Lower Risk of Cancer

Admittedly, cancer can strike anytime, anywhere and anyone simply because all of us have genes that can go amok.  Although we cannot do anything about the risk factors associated with cancer like age and family history, we can do something about unhealthy lifestyle habits! With that being the case, here are the ways with which you, too, can lower your risks for cancer.  You may even revise your New Year's resolutions to reflect these ways although anytime in the present is always the best time to start. Avoid the Sun Well, not really avoid the sun totally.  After all, the sun is your friend when it comes to giving you healthy doses of vitamin D, not to mention that playing and working in the warmth of the sun with family and friends are the greatest joys of life on Earth. Instead, what we are saying is that you must limit your sun exposure especially during the killer hours of between 9 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon when the sun's ultraviolet rays are at its strongest and, hence, deadliest.  If you must go out into the sun, then you have to be adequately protected - slather on sunscreen, wear a hat and ...

New Year’s Resolution: Donate, Don’t Throw Out

Ever looked at how much stuff you throw away on a daily or weekly basis?  Chances are, it's a lot!  That's why you should make one big New Year's Resolution this year - don't throw it out.  Donate it!  Plenty of the things we throw away are perfectly usable, from out of style clothes to CDs and DVDs.  They could be used by someone else, instead of taking up space in a landfill. Sure, New Year's was a while ago, but that shouldn't stop you from making a late resolution that'll make a big impact on the world around you.  When you next upgrade, get rid of clothes you never wear, or need to remove a whole lot of stuff from your life, make one change.  Donate them instead of dumping them, and keep them out of the waste stream. America is known everywhere in the world for being a society that throws just about everything away.  Each of us throws away about four and a half pounds of stuff daily, and that adds up to about two hundred and forty-five million tons every year.  Some of that really is garbage, but a lot of it is stuff that could still be ...

Tips in Greening your Small Business

An interesting trivia:  In the United States, 99 percent of all types of business organizations are considered small businesses.  Thus, they have a significant influence on our country, be it in terms of the economy, of politics, of society and of the environment.  And because small businesses account for 65 percent of national consumption, you can bet your bottom dollar that indeed any and all green initiatives, or the lack thereof, on their part will considerably impact on the environment. If you have a small business, you must consider greening your supply chain.  You will find that your relatively small eco-friendly initiatives will pay off big time in many ways.  On one hand, you can reduce costs and, hence, increase your profits.  You can even attract new customers who want their suppliers to serve their green needs.  On the other hand, you can reduce your organizational and individual carbon footprints.  You can even ask for energy rebates, thus, further lessening your expenditures. Opt for Local Suppliers When and where practicable, you should opt for local suppliers and producers of the items you are selling on the shelves.  You can save on freight and handling ...
