Everyone needs a break from their daily hectic and stressful lives, whether it is a break from their work, family, school, or the tense environment where they live.  But some people are not able to go very far due to economic reasons or not having any time for a real vacation.  Whether going to a far away getaway or enjoying a local vacation, people do not need to further contribute to the air quality that is emitted by cars.  A “green” vacation, whether a weekend escape or a two-week vacation, means a car-free vacation.

A car-free vacation involves walking as well as riding bicycles, animals, buses, trains, metros and subways in order to help you maneuver around an unfamiliar area that you are visiting.  It also enables you to make most of your trip by experiencing, seeing and enjoying more of the locale, ambiance, sites, people, and culture.  Tourists will not only be saving on gas and not emitting exhausts into the environment, they will also experience a more adventurous, fulfilling, exciting and memorable vacation.

Such places include islands, mountains, deserts, beaches, ranches, and faraway exotic locations.  Whether a local or a far getaway, hiking, boating, riding animals, walking tours, or cycling enables tourists to enjoy the aesthetic attributes of a locale as well as the culture, people and ambiance.

Furthermore, eco-friendly accommodations, such as some hotels, motels, resorts and lighthouses, offer very cheap as well as very expensive packages, depending on your income and traveling needs.  Such “green” lodgings conserve water and energy by not providing daily changes of the rooms’ linens and towels.  They provide recycling bins for its visitors as well as utilizing eco-friendly cleaners, low-flow toilets and showers, and energy-saving fluorescent lights.

If you do not want to travel far, but you would rather prefer a local getaway that lasts a day or two due to your time restrictions, consider checking out you local events in your community.  Museums, art galleries, zoos, parks, libraries, fairs, amusements parks, flea markets, swap meets, and college events offer tours as well as annual cultural events and festivals that the whole family can enjoy together.  And, you can return to the comfort of your home.  Sometimes, neighboring cities and towns have interesting and exciting activities, and they require a minimum of one-to-three-hour drive.  Such short trips can sometimes be taken on a train, subway, or metro, depending on where you live and what your locale offers.

Therefore, why not enjoy an eco-friendly “green” vacation and help the environment, as well.  You will not only enjoy a more fulfilling and multifaceted vacation, but you will allow future generations to enjoy the same privileges that you once had.  Whether you want a getaway to relax and rejuvenate, or just experience a new and different locale, a “green” vacation that is car-free is a better and healthier vacation for the earth as well as humanity.
