How to Make a Great Green Memorial Day Weekend

It is a wonderful time to relax and have some fun with your friends and family.  Of course, you will want to celebrate this holiday in an eco friendly manner.  This three day weekend opens up a lot of time for celebration, so here are some great steps to take that will help you ensure that you have a green Memorial Day weekend. First, before you have your barbecue or picnic, make sure that any things in your yard are eliminated.  If you are not going to use it, sell it or donate it to a thrift store that is in your local area.  You will want to get the grass looking nice as well.  Use an electric grass mower or a push mower that is old fashioned to take care of your lawn so you don't harm the environment. If you want to grill out, instead of going with a gas grill, go with a solar powered grill or an electric grill that gets power from the wind.  This way when you are cooking, you are doing it in an eco friendly manner. The outdoor furniture may need cleaned before your Memorial Day festivities.  When you are cleaning off patio furniture and ...

Earth Day Event Planning 101

Earth Day celebrations started in 1970.  Since its creation, this occasion has become an annual event when activists and citizens unite to promote awareness on the importance of creating a cleaner and more sustainable world.  Communities, towns and cities as well as schools all over the world hold Earth Day events to organize and fund environmental programs that will help solve issues like pollution, global warming, and climate change.  The success of these events will depend on how well it is conceptualized, promoted, and executed. The first step to planning an Earth Day event is setting goals.  Before you do some strategizing, you first need a set of goals to begin with.  What are the specific points that you want to achieve?  Which environment-saving measures will your event support?  This way, you can very well conceptualize an environmental event or campaign that will make a significant impact to the local community and schools, as a way to initiate large scale measures of preserving the environment.  Concepts like green family day where families will be taught of recycling and reusing certain items in the home can do.  Activities like family fun run to save the earth, where families can participate in a ...

Eco-friendly Easter! - Complete Report

Easter is coming up fast.  April 4 will be here soon enough.  If you celebrate this holiday, but you're also concerned about the environment, you may be facing a dilemma.  After all, like most major holidays, Easter has been heavily commercialized, and the traditional activities require a lot of spending and create a lot of garbage, plus there seems to be an awful lot of sugar and artificial coloring around. That's bad news for anyone wanting to contribute less to the waste stream.  Having an Easter without these things can look difficult, if you just look at what's available in ordinary stores.  So, what can you do to cut down your impact on the environment without telling the kids they're going to have to give up Easter this year?  Let's take a look at some of your options for an eco-friendly Easter celebration that'll still be lots of fun, but won't break the budget. Why Choose An Eco-Friendly Easter Easter can produce a lot of waste, and have a bigger impact on the world around us than it might seem at first glance.  However, the basic components of an Easter celebration don't have to be ecologically problematic.  You can paint eggs, give treats, ...

Ideas to Help you Plan an Event Greener and more Eco-Friendly

Green Event Planning Events such as parties, conferences, and weddings often have a large impact on the environment.  They produce a sizable amount of waste, including everything from plastic eating utensils to name badges that are then disposed of after the event.  However, there are many easy ways to make your next event a much greener one.  As an added bonus, some of these ideas will also save you money in the process.  Here are some ideas to help make an event greener and more environmentally friendly. Before the Event When sending invitations; consider choosing an option that does not create waste or use up resources.  Instead of thick, paper invitations that are mailed in envelopes (and delivered using fuel-consuming trucks), consider other invitations options.  Email can be effectively used to invite people to an event, either by sending an email with the details or using an online invitation service such as evite.com.  Another option for small gatherings is to call each guest and personally invite them. Ask that people RSVP to the event ahead of time.  This will prevent you from over ordering and throwing out wasted, unused food. Choose a location that is near public transportation and provide that information ...
