Dental Floss is important when it comes to healthy teeth and gums, but check out some other non-traditional uses for this common household product:
1. Dental floss can be used to lift food off of a baking tray without damaging the food. Slide the floss between the food and the tray to make a clean cut.
2. If you break your fishing line or run out, use dental floss as a replacement.
3. Use dental floss to hang items. Dental floss is made of a strong and durable material, such that you can use it to hang picture frames or wind chimes.
4. Patch holes with dental floss by using it to sew with.
5. Use dental floss as an emergency shoelace.
6. Dental floss makes for a useful clothesline if you are out camping or on vacation.
7. You can use floss to get a ring that is stuck on your finger off by wrapping the floss around the tip of your finger down to the ring and then sliding the ring up the waxed string and off your finger.
8. Use dental floss to fill in holes in the wall left by nails or screws. Roll the floss in some glue, stick it in the wall and then paint over it.
9. String beads to make jewelry with dental floss.
10. Separate photos that are stuck together in an album by slipping a strand of floss between them, without damaging the photos.
11. Support climbing plants by securing them with dental floss.
12. Use dental floss to make flower garlands.
13. Dental floss has medical uses as well. It has been used in emergencies to tie up severed arteries or to tie up the umbilical cord in an emergency delivery.
14. Dental floss can be used to cut food into pieces is you don’t have a knife handy. Wrap the floss around your fingers like you would if you were flossing, and use the string to cut through food like hardboiled eggs or cake. This is sometimes neater than using a knife, especially with foods that have a delicate texture like soft cheeses and jelly.
15. Use dental floss to tie up small packages.
16. Fix a broken umbrella by using dental floss to secure the loose fabric to the umbrella ribs by sewing them.
17. Unwaxed dental floss can be used to tie up rolled pieces of meat like roasts, chicken, or bacon for cooking.
18. Floss in between cracks in furniture to clean hard to reach crevices. This also works for cleaning tools.
19. You can make a chew toy for pets out of dental floss by tying up floss in the shape of a bone. This is great for dogs because when they chew on it, the floss can actually help remove plaque.
