In only a few days Halloween will be here.  While you want to have great time on this fun holiday, you want to ensure that it is an eco friendly holiday as well.  Halloween can be a very wasteful time.  Just think of all the new decorations that are purchase, the pumpkins used just for carvings, and all those new costumes that are purchased.  However, you can still have a great time on Halloween while working to be caring to the environment and you can save some money.  Here are some easy tips for an eco friendly Halloween you’ll definitely want to use this year.

Tips for Decorating

When it comes to decorating up your home for Halloween, one of the best things to do is to recycle.  Take your old decorations and use them again.  If you purchase new decorations, store them carefully so that you can use them again year after year.  Another great idea is to make your own decorations.  It’s better for the environment and you can use items like milk jugs and other items that are recyclable.  You can even look at thrift shops to find even more supplies.  This is not only great for the environment, but you and the kids will have a ton of fun doing it.

Tips for Your Costumes

Each year people spend more than 5 billion on new costumes for Halloween and most of them don’t get used again in the future.  It’s great for those selling the costumes, but think about what that does for the environment.  Save older costumes for younger kids to use or come up with some do it yourself ideas to make your own costumes.  Homemade costumes can be a lot of fun and they allow you to be more creative too.

Tips for Parties and Trick-or-Treating

Before you go out and start buying those big bags full of candy, think about some greener options for those who come trick-or-treating at your door.  Think about giving out fruit or other healthy snacks.  Another option is to give out apple cider in small cups instead of candy.

If you are having a party, you can still be eco friendly too.  Decorate for the party with your green homemade or recycled decorations.  Serve organic foods at the party and don’t use party supplies that will only end up being wasted.

You don’t have to add to the big waste that happens on Halloween.  With these easy tips, you can have a green Halloween while still having a great time.  Use these tips for decorations, costumes, and more to ensure that you and your family have a blast in an eco friendly manner.  It will make the holiday even more fun for you.
