When it comes to saving energy, it’s a good idea to focus on your heating and cooling.  After all, these are some of the applications in your home that take the most energy.  They also are the most costly applications, whether you are using wood, oil, electricity, or gas.  There are some ways that you can save money on heating and cooling costs, as well as energy.  By using roof turbines and ceiling fans, you will see a huge difference.

Using Ceiling Fans

Although you probably have heard about using ceiling fans during the summer months, you may not have thought about using your ceiling fans during the winter months as well.  You see, heat always rises, which means during the winter time, the heat you want is up around the ceiling.  If you have a ceiling fan running on low, it can push down the heat so you can feel it and also helps to keep the condensation from occurring on the windows in your home as well.  Of course, to get the effects you want, the fan must run in a clockwise direction, which is different than the way you run it during the summer months.  When you run your fan in a clockwise direction, it pulls up the cold air and pushes the warmer air down towards the floors.

When you decide to purchase a ceiling fan of your own, make sure you look for one that will go clockwise as well as counter clockwise.  This way you can use the ceiling fans both in the summer and the winter months.  Ceiling fans don’t use a whole lot of power and can save you big time on the heating and cooling costs.

During the summer these ceiling fans work every well too.  When they move the air in the room around, it make the perspiration evaporate off of your skin, which makes you feel a lot cooler as well.  Along with a good air conditioner, these fans can be used to help keep things feeling cooler, which means you can cut the air back a bit, saving some money.

Another option to use to help relieve the energy costs and energy use is roof turbines.  They are known by many other names, such as spinaways, and whirligigs.  They are basically vents that are light and that spin around, taking the air out of the cavity in the roof.  They are waterproof and don’t use any electricity at all.  Whenever there is just a bit of air movement, they will spin around and will stand up to high winds with no problem.

The reason these roof turbines are so helpful is because during the summertime, the area between the home ceiling and the roof can get very hot, making it more difficult to cool your home, since this heat can go into your living areas.  With the roof turbines, it helps to keep these areas a bit cooler.  They are very easy to install and inexpensive to install as well.  Once you have them installed, they’ll start whisking away the heat in the attic area, helping you to more effectively and efficiently keep your home cool.

So, using roof turbines and ceiling fans can both be very helpful to you when you want to reduce the energy you use for heating and cooling your home.  This is great for the environment and also help you to save money as well.
