Fantastic Holiday Season Going Green Tips

The holidays are almost upon us.  No doubt there’s a lot going on in your life.  You’re trying to find the perfect gifts, decorating for the season, and planning out fun activities for the whole family.  The problem is that the holiday season is one of the times when a lot of rubbish happens to be generated.  The good news is that you can do your part to reduce the impact that the holiday season has on the environment.  Here are a few great eco friendly tips for the season that can help you out.

Tip #1 – Do Your Shopping on the Web

One great tip you can use to go green this holiday season is to do your shopping on the web.  You won’t have to use any fuel to go around shopping and you’ll also save a lot of stress, since the stores are crammed this time of year.  You’ll also save money, since most online stores have great prices.  The overall impact of freight is often reduced as well, since items online many times come right from the factory.

Tip #2 – Go with Reusable Bags

Another great tip to help you keep the holiday’s eco friendly is to go with reusable bags.  If you’re going out to stores to shop for the season, take along bags you have that are reusable.  This way you don’t have to use the plastic bags that the stores usually provide you with.

Tip #3 – Think Green with Gifts

When purchasing the gifts, try to think green.  Think about the packaging and the gift.  You can try to let the person know about the benefit to the environment that comes with the gift as well.  Consider the person’s interests and likes and look for a way that you can go green with it.

Tip #4 – Consider Eco Friendly Gift Cards

Too many times people get gifts they don’t really like.  They either get thrown away or they are stored and never used.  This is a big waste of resources and money.  Don’t make this mistake this year.  Instead, you can go with eco friendly gift cards.  Today many stores will give you earth friendly options that are made out of bioplastic.  What a great way to give the perfect eco friendly gift.

Tip #5 – Make a Donation

Yet another great idea is to actually make a donation as a gift.  Donate something to charity in the name of someone you’re buying for.  They probably don’t need something new anyway.  Instead of going with a gift they may not use, purchase a gift that will go to an organization or to a person that is truly needy.  It’s a great way to spread the spirit of the holidays in a green way.

Tip #6 – Give Gifts that Aren’t Physical

Last of all, giving gifts that aren’t actually physical is a great idea.  Consider purchasing a service for the people on your list.  Another option is to purchase tickets to a favorite sporting event, to the movies, or even to a concert you know they will really enjoy.  This way there is no waste at all and you give out a great gift.

You can have a great holiday season without having to hurt the environment.  If you keep these tips in mind, you’ll be able to keep your holiday season eco friendly and fun.
