When you get organized, living is a lot less confusing. It is also the green way to live. Why? This is true because you can find all the stuff you already have that you need instead of going out and re-buying them over again. The stuff can cover items used in all the various rooms in the house. Below find an example of these things.

- In the bathroom you have 2 bottles of shampoo stuck at the back of the cabinet. By organizing the cabinet before going to the store you discover them and that you can mark those off your shopping list.

- In the kitchen you can save on buying salad dressing in those convenient plastic bottles just by organizing your pantry and/or refrigerator.

- In the utility room you will find all the batteries you have on hand by organizing the shelves and drawers. This will save you from purchasing more.

These things add up over time and you may not think it makes a difference but it can. Remember that not all of the plastics can be recycled, so buying products your may already have at home leads to more plastics being manufactured than necessary at times. Plastic is not cheaply recycled when it is possible.

Think of the bigger picture here. We live in larger homes today in the United States then we did years ago, even though the number of people living in the homes has gone down. This means we are using more things than ever to furnish our homes aside from anything we consume on a daily basis. The population of this country is only a small fraction of the entire population of the world, yet we produce almost a third of the garbage in the world. Even though recycling can help along with reusing, if we all just consumed less it would be better in the long run.

Being organized allows you to live well even in a small space. There will be no need to go out and buy the things you need all the time just because you can find them in the clutter. Sort and arrange all your items in the house neatly, this way you know at all time what you need and what you don’t need. You also do not need a massive house just for two people, if you really want to live green. A smaller house uses less energy for heating or cooling too. You don’t have to buy as much furniture either which is usually made from some type of wood.

Having you house organized can also save on gasoline, because you will be driving to the store less to shop for the items you need. Ever looked in a cabinet and said “Oh, I did not know I had one of these already?” If you have then you know what I am talking about getting more organized. Put this as number one on your list as how to live green. Begin with organization and go from there.
