Trees are marvelous plants that can take in CO2 from the air around them and give off the much needed O2 that lowers the effects of the greenhouse gases. These gases are causing the global warming to happen. With all this said, planting trees can help lessen the global warming throughout the world.

Motivated to lower the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, the government in Indonesia with the help of some environmental activists are planting the trembesi tree. The saman or the trembesi trees are thought to be quite effective in lessening the global warming on our planet. A trembesi tree will absorb as much as 28 tons of CO2 from the air in a year.

The nice thing is this tree is not hard to grow in a tropical environment with no maintenance of any kind. This plan to plant the trees was announced by the president of Indonesia (Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono) along with other dignitaries and environmentalists. The belief is that planting the trees and taking care of them in large enough numbers will change the environment for the good in that country.

The plan is to plant trembesi trees in each province of the country until a total of one million have been planted. This plan is suppose to accomplish a cut in CO2 emissions as soon as 2020 by a huge 26 percent. The president of Indonesia warns, “Do not let the earth ravaged by global warming.”

The local governments are to participate in their areas with eco-conscious companies along with the NGOs, communities, artists and the activists on the move for environmental change. In other words they are to work with anyone who cares about improving the environment.

This program will continue across Indonesia to help the environment. The country will make an impact on the world’s situation. Wouldn’t it be great though if other countries would join in and plant trees that would grow in their area and absorb CO2?

Just think how much more CO2 could then be processed out of the air. Also think about the increase of O2 would be released into the air. You could even be instrumental in starting a tree-planting plan in your neighborhood and surrounding area. If everyone would just plant one tree think of what that could do?

It will take years to see the final results that Indonesia will reap. This merits keeping watch on to see how successful this country is. Could the cure for global warming be as simple as planting a tree? It is definitely a possible answer when looking at how some trees process the CO2 and release O2.

Of course we need to practice other measures too to lower our carbon footprint along with planting trees. We need to use alternative energy that does not pollute the air. We need to conserve power too. But all in all, the tree planting is a good place to start. Congratulations to Indonesia for making this commitment.
