How conscious are you when it comes to your day to day purchases?  Has it ever crossed your mind on how good or bad this can be to our environment?  It is appalling to see the amount of waste caused from packaging.  Imagine a trip to the deli just to buy a sandwich wrapped in three layers of plastic and paper protection which is more than it really needs plus tons of napkins on the side.  Or let’s say for example if you purchase an item online having the same size of a pocketbook and it is delivered at your door inside a box that can fit a 14 inch TV covered in an enormous amount of bubble wrap and Styrofoam.  This is already generating a lot of garbage.  How much is too much?  The thought of it ensures us much convenience knowing that our food stays fresh longer or products we buy are in good condition.  But then again this kind of action is ridiculously too much.

People tend to neglect this little kind of action not thinking of the big negativity that comes with it.  Thinking and considering your options when it comes to purchasing something.  It is not hard to miss that nowadays more and more companies produce a much more Eco- friendly packaging for their products.  You can check the packages or labels for recycling signs.  This way you are not only purchasing just an item but you are supporting the needs of your environment.  Then instead of just watching and doing nothing while your sandwich is being wrapped like a Christmas present, it is your option to tell them to have it wrapped once and you are good to go.  This way you are helping in minimizing over packaging.  It is your prerogative to continue patronizing those products that use extensive packaging or think greener and choose the other way around.

Think of the environmental effects of plastic bags.  They truly are convenient for grocery shopping or food storage.  The impact of these things is not considered by a lot of consumers.  First, these are made from petroleum which is a kind of resource that is slowly diminishing.  It is difficult to dispose and when burned, plastics can emit toxic fumes which are very harmful pollutants.  They are not biodegradable and it takes them a thousand years before they decompose.  Plastic bags are very common kinds of debris you can find around you whether in the street, sidewalks, beaches or parks.

Figure out ways to re use these packages.  These packages can be used in one way or another for sure.  Be mindful of your product purchases.  It would not be too much pain in changing and choosing a more Eco- friendly one and support a product with minimal packaging.  Sometimes it is inevitable for us to make good decisions for the sake of our environment but being a wise consumer sure add up a lot.  Think greener!  This can actually give you, me and the next generations to come a richer, happier and healthier earth to live in.
