Organic Perfumes & Fragrances

Bookmark and Share

We all like to smell good and perfume and other fragrances are a lovely way to give ourselves that alluring smell we desire. Did you know that most of those perfumes are made with chemicals that come from crude oil? That is not very safe, nor is it good for the environment. There is a better solution to make you feel good – organic perfumes and fragrances.

Benefits of Going Organic

Organic materials are generally safe and they are derived from natural ingredients. There are no chemicals and no harmful substances in an organic perfume. This comes with many benefits. Benefits that include being safer for you and the environment.

You may never even know what is in your perfume since labeling regulations are not that stringent. A manufacturer can leave ingredients out or not disclose the actual name of an ingredient if it is considered a trade secret. Many times the most harmful ingredients are covered as a trade secret and so you will never know the true nature of what is in your perfume.

Have you ever seen someone have an allergic reaction to a perfume? It can be horrible. Some people break out or get typical allergic reactions like a runny nose and itching eyes. For others, the reaction can be severe, even leading to breathing difficulties. Is it worth risking your heath just to smell good?

The answer to that is no. You have no need to use chemically produced perfumes that could harm you when you can make your own or buy organic perfume.

Making Your Own

It is not as hard as you think to make your own perfumes. There are so many wonderful scents found in nature. If you have every smelled a flower then you know this is true. It is all about extracting those natural scents and putting them to use as your new perfume.

The basic recipe for making perfume involves using your favorite essential oils, a little Vodka and distilled water. Mix the ingredients carefully and store them in a dark bottle. Clear glass allows sunlight in which will quickly dissolve your fragrance. Vodka is the perfect alcohol to use since it has no scent and is clear. The choice of essential oils is really your preference. There are a range of oils from which to choose. Pick one that suits you.

You may have to experiment with the amount of ingredients to use. Just be sure that you write down your recipe once you do find the right amounts.

It is important to note that a person could be allergic to a natural product. Allergies are not confined to just chemically produced substances. You could have an allergic reaction to a fragrance you choose. So, use your organic perfumes with care. If you notice a reaction then stop using that essential oil. Usually, though, allergic reactions and adverse effects due to organic products are far less severe than those from chemical products and once you stop use the effects stop without further issues.

It is that simple, but if making your own doesn’t suit you then simply look for organic labeled fragrances on the market. They are becoming more popular. You can easily replace those old, chemically charged perfumes that you use now with fragrances that are just as lovely but much safer.

My husband is really sensitive to smells so we don’t use anything that have overly strong scents except for cleaning products that we make ourselves.

Although I’ve never thought of making my own perfume before, I think I might just give it a try.

    Thanks for the recipe.

Be careful with plant derived essential oils. Some of them are primary irritants. eg d-Limonene from orange skins. Many synthetic perfume compounds are exact replicas of their natural cousins.
