If you don’t like the idea of animals being killed and tortured, the going vegan is the right choice for you. However, there are a variety of reasons to go vegan that you probably haven’t even thought about. Here is a look at some of the totally selfish reasons that you should consider making the choice to go vegan.
Taste Bud Reasons
* If you’re eating the traditional diet of the West, you’re missing out on some tasty meals. Dishes that include meat take the place of natural foods that are full of nutrients. Instead of feeling that they are deprived, many vegans find that they enjoy the great tastes they have never experienced in the past.
* If you want to have meals that taste a lot like the foods you’re used to, you can do it in a healthy manner. There is soy chicken, meatloaf that is not made of meat, and other options.
* Charred meat has carcinogens in it that can cause cancer, and you definitely won’t miss them.
Fashion Reasons
* One of the substances used in making fur is formaldehyde, which is used to embalm dead people. There is enough evidence out there to support that fact that it can cause cancer.
* When you are a vegan, the fashion designers are not narrowed by much. The slight narrowing will point you to some great designers that can help enhance your wardrobe. You can even find vegan scents that you are sure to love.
* Today you can find many vegan shoe options in various styles. When you are a vegan you’ll put a lot more thought into the shoes that you purchase, and you’ll only want to purchase shoes that are made in countries that have enforced labor laws.
Personal Growth Reasons
* One of the best reasons for you to decide to go vegan is that it can help you to grow. You can increase your self esteem because you know that you are doing the right thing, and it also helps to make you empowered, knowing you can do something to change the world.
* As you began to follow vegan principles, you can see other moral issues more clearly. Standing up against animal abuse can help you to stand up against other types of abuse as well.
* You can also find your voice when you go vegan. Even if you are shy, you’ll have something important to say, which can empower you to use your voice.

I’d like to add a few more, if I may:
–Vegans often look, smell and taste better!
–You’ll become more aware of what you’re putting into your body; scanning ingredient labels for animal ingredients will also make you read all the chemicals most Americans are eating, and possibly learn how a lot of foods are made. Yuck.
–Your blood pressure and cholesterol levels will probably be EXCELLENT. (Just got my BP tested the other day at the dentist and that’s what the hygienist said, “excellent.”)
–Many people think that to care about animals, you have to stop caring about people…? Not true. The fast food/agricultural industries can be extremely exploitative of our fellow humans as well.
–Depending on your social circle, if you manage not to become a smug a-hole, you can become “the cool vegan” to your friends.
–YOU CAN EAT MORE. That alone is my #1 selfish reason. I’m a size 4 and eat probably twice as much as anyone I know. French fries, falafel, Asian food, etc. I rarely eat salads.
And may I also add, at the risk of offending…?
Although activism is wonderful and I participate myself, you can be a vegan without “preaching the gospel” to people all the time or joining an animal-rights group. If fear of becoming a “hippie” (sorry, lack of a better word) is what’s stopping you from continuing to eat/wear animals, I think it’s silly but I understand. You can just BE YOU, and do it FOR YOU. There is NOTHING wrong with that.
