Weddings are that special occasion where a large amount of time, work and fun are put into making a special day for both the groom and the bride.  However, if you are a person that understands the importance of going green and want to help protect the environment, you may wish to think about how to do a green wedding.  This does not mean you have to have a boring wedding.  With some creativity you can keep the degree of elegance you wish the occasion to have.

Concerning your wedding invitations, if you decide to have a green wedding it is a good move to use recycled paper for your invitations and envelopes.  If you are a talented and arts and crafts loving individual, then you can always make your own paper with neat designs.  Instead of printing out all of those invitations you can have a calligrapher write them out for you.  This will also add grace and character to the invitations.

Another great tip for having a green wedding is to have your wedding clothes recycled.  You can always rent them out to someone if you wish or you can give them to family members or friends as a gift.  There is always a good way to recycle something for use later on.  There are a number of different ways that you can even alter the dress or suit that you wish to recycle.  By adding an item or removing one you can really change the appearance of an article of clothing.

To save on all of the bad things emitted by the burning of fossil fuels, have your wedding close to home so there is not a lot of people driving around.  This also means that less fuel will be used so you will actually save yourself some money.  Think about the different locations you can have your wedding at and consider being married in a place that is naturally well lit by sunlight.  This will save a good deal of energy.

If you only invite a small number of people, less food will be eaten and less energy will be used.  The key to having a green wedding is understanding the word conservation.  Also, make sure that you do not buy an over abundance of food so that there is not a large amount of food wasted.  If any leftovers remain, be sure to have them quickly wrapped up and refrigerated.  There is really no need to have an overdone wedding cake so keep it simple.
