The world today is waking up to the catastrophic effects of the overuse of fossil fuels that has led to environmental damage.  Apart from the effect that these fossil fuels such as gasoline and coal have had on the environment, these resources are depleting fast and hence have become very expensive sources of energy.  With erratic climate changes and the fear of global warming looming large, there is a conscious effort that is being put into developing alternative sources of energy that help us in containing the damage that has already been done and prevent further damage to the planet.

Efforts now are being made to harness the other sources of energy that are as easily available and do not pose an environmental risk.  Wind energy is one such means of alternative energy that has been used effectively by man for generations.  From being a mere source of pumping water, windmills now spin to run generators that provide electricity.  It can be easily said that this is one of the cleanest sources of renewable energy.

However, windmills have been associated with being noisy and have not been accepted as aesthetically pleasing.  The answer to this problem has also been sought with the creation of air turbines which harness wind power while floating approximately 1000ft in the air.

These air turbines or wind turbines run on the Magenn Power Air Rotor System more commonly known as MARS which is a cylindrical device filled with helium to keep it afloat.  This system rotates horizontally when the wind hits it thereby generating energy that is clean with no emissions at a low cost.

The Magnus effect along with the helium in the device helps to keep it afloat and does not let the system drift downward.  Once electricity is produced by this wind motion it is then passed down to the transformer that this system is attached to with the help of cables.

Some of the biggest advantages that have been seen in the usage of wind turbines as opposed to other alternative sources of energy are flexibility and low costs involved in deployment, better efficiency in producing energy, and environmental friendliness.  These systems can be installed close to where energy is required and hence do away with installation costs for expensive power cables along with other infrastructures.

As these turbines are placed high in the air they are able to source wind power more effectively and efficiently.  They are conditioned to function at higher wind speeds than the conventional windmills thus producing more energy.  Because of the height at which these wind turbines are placed they take care of the aesthetic value as they are well above eye level.  This high altitude operation also takes care of the noise pollution.

The population of bats, birds and other flying species does not suffer too much from an impact with wind turbines because these systems do not have very hard and solid blades and are relatively softer in nature.

One of the biggest advantages of these wind turbines is their use in times of disaster relief, as these turbines are extremely mobile.  These wind turbines can also be used in tandem with diesel power and can be put to use in developing nations and in industries such as oil, gas, farming, mining, power and water generation etc.
